It's one of my favorite spoons for stirring because the hole minimizes the degree to which stirred material is prone to splashing out of bowl or pot. However if used to free stuff sticking to the bottom of a pot (particularly a rough cast iron pot like Lodge) the metal core of the spoon will cut through the silicone covering.
It still looks as good as the day I received it and I believe this will last for a very, very long time. It is lightweight, the silicone surrounds a thin metal base which gives it strength. I bought this KaiserFlex Silicone Blending Spoon more than one year ago when it was on sale at Amazon and I wish I'd bought a dozen. I have it in my Amazon cart so I can watch the price, hoping it will be reduced again so I can buy a bunch as gifts. It fits perfectly in a small hand, is a substantial length so it works well even in a larger pot, and more importantly, works for so much more than blending. I use it in preparing my biga for bread, stirring anything in a pot, shirring eggs, rubbing the handle between my palms for a little whipping, turning over my Boca burgers, blending chocolate into nuts for candy, and on and on and on. I love the shape of this spoon, the pointed end allows me to use it in places other spoons and spatulas can't go. It's perfect for scooping out the last bits from those jars of mayo, mustard, sauces and whatever.
As a result, we had oatmeal without having to deal with the soaking and scrubbing of the pot. I purchased this on impulse, and I've only used it once. It's perfect for stirring oatmeal on the stovetop: the flat surface effectively scrapes the bottom of the pan, and the corner gets into the edges of the pan. I look forward to using it when I make cheese sauce for macaroni and cheese, and when I make spaghetti sauce. I think any recipe that tends to stick would be easier with this stirrer.Like others, I would rather have this utensil in a color other than blue, but I can live with the color.
The spoon has a hole for stiring, as a result it can not be used to scoop. The spoon is good for stirring as described. Found it's good for making bbq sauce or pasta sauce. I got it free with a purchase. The regular price off $12 is a bit high since it can't multi-task. Only negative is the fact the handle can get hot if left in the pot or near hot steam. The handle is a metal shaft covered with silicon, so it conducts heat.
It works so great on no-stick fry pan and Le Creuset french ovan. The handle is easy to hold. Easy to clean.
